The Place for All Things Uppity…
adjective: Descriptive of an African American with sound self-esteem; seeing him or herself as equal to or better than a White/non black person; used as a racial slur, pejorative, or epithet typically among White Americans against Black Americans.
noun: A Unicorn is a mythical creature, someone amazing who is hard to catch or simply a very rare find.
An Uppity Unicorn is the rare and desireable Black American descendant of chattel slavery with self knowledge, cultural pride, and progressive as a productive member of our global society. Seeking to better oneself and community. As Uppity Unicorns, we find ourselves sufficient for ourselves, in and of ourselves, without the need to be anti anyone else (i.e. race, religion, creed, sexual orientation, etc.)
As a company, our goal is to create real-life Cinderella stories. A typical “rags to riches” read. Our intent is to share the “level up” journey with Black women that are willing to upgrade themselves and their lives to that which every self respecting woman deserves.
Now why is this important? As black women, we are often humiliated and denigrated at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Believed to be everyone’s burden or victim. With our worth and potential obscured from sight.
But we are actually quite the opposite. At Uppity Unicorn, we will show you why.

To my beautiful Afro-American sisters, the verdict is in, and the bonnet is out. We love a good silk or satin bonnet to protect our afro-textured hair from the worst: split ends, breakage, dryness, tangles, single strand knots etc. Our satin scarves help us to preserve...
